About Challenge
JTC Innovation Challenge 2023JTC has committed $4million for the JTC Innovation Challenge to seek innovative solutions to operational challenges in the built environment faced by JTC and the public sector. If successfully developed, there is intention to pilot/deploy these co-developed solutions into JTC estates and projects, pushing for adoption into the industry.

SOLUTIONS TO INSPECT AND EFFECTIVELY CLEAR CHOKED DRAIN PIPES IN BUILDINGS
1) Repairs by building owners are often afterhours to reduce disruption to business, as the inspection may involve cutting open pipes.
2) Opening drain-lines and discharge pipes for inspections can only be done for sections that are within common areas, and these pipes are often hidden (between walls or under floor)
3) Due to the complex routing of pipes, existing CCTV pipe inspection solution is unable to navigate through effectively
4) Current method to find the choke is through trial and error (can take 6 nights or even more).
5) Pipes for discharge pipes (<10cm) and drain-lines have smaller diameter, solution needs to be able to fit within this tight dimension.
6) Difficult to enforce best practices on individual tenant, it is also difficult to ascertain if choke is caused by a specific tenant.
What We Are Looking For
The envisioned solution should be able to inspect and clear choke. It should be non-destructive and non-disruptive, be easy to use, and uses less/no manpower.

CLEANING TOILETS WITH MINIMAL HUMAN INTERVENTION
The public sector owns a significant number of toilets that must be cleaned manually by our cleaning operators daily. While we could remodel toilets to incorporate the latest technology solutions, such opportunities mostly occur when there are estate renovation and refurbishment (R&R) works (long intervals). Manual cleaning sanitary fixtures (such as toilet bowls, urinals, and basin) is tedious, physically demanding to our pool of cleaners and the fixtures can vary across different estates and between buildings in the same estates.
What We Are Looking For
The solution would allow the cleaning operators to perform other tasks while the technology solution takes care of cleaning with minimal supervision. When necessary, human intervention should be straightforward and easy for the cleaning operators to handle. The solution should also demonstrate a noticeable improvement in the cleanliness of the toilets.

IMPROVING SECURITY SURVEILLANCE, SITUATIONAL AWARENESS AND INCIDENT RESPONSE IN JTC’S INDUSTRIAL ESTATES
For lands earmarked for development (undeveloped lands), thick vegetation would usually be present, and this poses a security concern. With thick vegetation and no proper access routes, it limits the use of security patrol vehicles to access the area and instead on-foot patrol is required. To compound issues, power and communications infrastructure may not have been laid/deployed yet, making it manpower intensive and unsafe.
JTC estates cover large areas and are expansive. When we respond to incidents, it is best to have a preliminary/early appreciation of the situation so that the appropriate assets can be deployed to these incidences in a timely manner. At certain remote sites with lack of surveillance equipment and communication infrastructure, the command centre will not have an initial assessment until resources are deployed on site and reports back the situation, where extra time is taken up due to this gap.
What We Are Looking For
The envisioned solution should be able to automate and/or improve the productivity of the following activities, without the need for a system overhaul or expensive infrastructure to be in place:
1. Conduct inspection of remote areas with thick vegetation;
2. When conducting inspection, circumvent the challenge in capturing surveillance data without breaching the privacy of tenanted lands;
3. Transfer inspection data to an existing command centre in areas with low/weak communication bandwidth;
4. Help officers perform their assessment of the data captured to enhance surveillance and response to incidents.
The solution is also expected to allow end users to reap the gains in manpower productivity and/or cost savings in a direct and apparent manner.
